Early Embryonic Development

image.png

Day/Week Event
Week 1 πŸ’  HCG secretion begins around the time of blastocyst implantation
πŸ’  Blastocyst β€œsticks” on day six
Week 2 πŸ’  Formation of bilaminar embryonic disc
πŸ’  Two layers β†’ epiblast and hypoblast.
Week 3 πŸ’  Formation of trilaminar embryonic disc via gastrulation. (Three layers β†’ endoderm, mesoderm, ectoderm)
πŸ’  Gastrulation β†’ epiblast cell invagination through primitive streak. πŸ”½
πŸ’  Notochord arise from midline mesoderm and induces overlying ectoderm (via SHH) to become neural plate , which gives neural tube via neurulation.
Week 4 πŸ’  Heart begins to beat (four chambers), cardiac activity visible by transvaginal ultrasound.
πŸ’  Upper and lower Limb buds start to form. (four limbs)
Week 5 πŸ’  Neural crest migration
Week 8 πŸ’  Genitalia start to show male/female characteristics. (pronounce β€œgenieightalia”)
